Pregnancy Update: 16 Weeks.
Hi! Sorry, I'm back after a few days off! I didn't have a time to write this week's 16 weeks update earlier and thanks to everyone who messaged me asking if everything is okay! Yes, feeling great and so excited about everything!
We spent some time in Hawaii and it was amazing! We really unplugged and it was so nice to vacation as a family of three. I'll be sharing more about our travels to the Big Island, tips for traveling with toddlers, and hotel reviews next week.
Let's get to the fun stuff! Sometimes I think to myself, "wow, how am I only 16 weeks" and a minute later say, "wow, how are we already 16 weeks?" Time is definitely passing in a different way this pregnancy. I've been keeping busy with work and family stuff, but am still making sure I dedicate time and energy to thinking about our baby. We are talking about baby names all the time and we can't wait to find out the sex on May 18th.
16 Weeks Update
Baby Echo is the size of: an avocado!
Due date: October 18. We have a doctors appointment on Monday morning so we will be able to get more information from our doctor then to see if the date changed.
Cravings: No real cravings where I am sending Jesse out late at night to get ice cream or anything like that. But I have definitely been enjoying salty food a lot more. So satisfying. I loved salty food with Lillian and my favorite thing is getting veggie sushi. I also find Parmesan Goldfish extremely satisfying. Omg talking about those right now makes me want them.
Complaints: No complaints. Feeling pretty good. Going to sign up for a few Core40 classes so I can work on my muscle tone. Feeling not as strong as I want to feel. Also, everyone talks about how hard it is to give up alcohol when you're pregnant but how come no one talks about how hard it is to give up Advil!!!!!!!!!!! Not like I am an Advil junkie or anything, but do you know how nice it is to have two Advil after carrying around a toddler all day and lugging things around. Not having Advil is definitely a drag!
Common symptoms for 16 weeks pregnant. Luckily, I haven't had these. Waiting for the brighter skin! Ha! Not going to happen! I definitely have older skin this time around. A lot more brown spots, called pregnancy melasma. I am waiting until we are done having kids to do any treatments and lightening. I did have the tiniest bloody nose.
- brighter skin (due to increased blood flow)
- oilier or shinier skin (due to hormones)
- continued weight gain
- possible hemorrhoids
Weight Gain: Need to get a scale! Not sure how much I've gained this week. Will go get one today!
Pregnancy Comparison: Things still very smooth but I am definitely bigger this time around faster. How many times can I say that before everyone gets sick of it? Still loving both experiences! I guess one of the biggest differences this time around is how ready we were for our family to grow. We were surprised when we heard the news we were expecting with Lillian. Our lives totally changed. This time we are in a new house so don't have to move. We have the space to turn the office into a nursery, I don't have to make any immediate professional changes. We were so ready to get pregnant and it's funny how different each pregnancy is.
It has also been super fun to watch my sister Claire, who is due in just three weeks!!!, prepare for her new baby. She is going to all of the classes, got her nursery all ready, has the clothes washed and folded and in the drawers. It's definitely been a blast to connect with her in this new way. I feel like I am sharing the information I wish someone had told me. And it's funny to see how different it is for your second. I can't wait to get our nursery set up and organized! We are waiting to find out the sex first!
If you're reading this and you're pregnant with your first, CONGRATULATIONS!!! There is nothing like it! Enjoy every aspect and soak it all up! There is something so magical and mysterious about your first pregnancy that you can't fully comprehend until you're going through your second. Also, definitely take a babymoon!!! Take advantage of the fact that it's easy to get away. And definitely, go bond with your partner!
Here are some of the items I suggested Claire get before her Baby Boy arrives soon:
Kissy Kissy Convertible Gown- You can get these anywhere online, but I LOVE the soft cotton from Kissy Kissy. These are amazing because you can snap your newborn in this as a sack or as pants. Really genius and perfect for sleeping because it's so much easier to change during the middle of the night.
PotteryBarn Baby x Halo Sleep Swaddle- As an expecting parent you will definitely receive swaddle blankets, like the infamous Aiden & Anais, and some sleep sacks. But for your newborn, you NEED a Sleep Swaddle. I love the Halo ones from PB Kids because they are soft and have cute prints. My best friend Rachel gave me one of these when we had Lillian and it was absolutely the best! You're going to want to have at least 2-3 of these because every time your baby sleeps at home you will want to put them in this Swaddle. You need multiple because they get dirty from spit up and blowouts and they take a long time to dry.
Blackout curtains We didn't get these right away for Lillian and I wish we had. Blackout curtains are a must for any nursery. We have these from PB Kids and love them. You especially need them when your little one is a toddler and daylight savings times makes them want to stay up all night!
Lillian Update: Gosh, this little lady is too fun! We've been having a blast watching her grow. She loves playing with her pretend "baby" and we know she will be an amazing big sister. She is adventurous and spunky and definitely is headstrong. We love her so much and we are really excited about the age gap between our kids!
