PERFECT PARTY: STURDY THIRTY.
Happy Monday everyone and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me! I hope everyone had a lovely weekend! The Three Amigos had a blast this weekend- Lillian stayed with my in-laws while Jesse and I went out to breakfast at one of our favorite spots, Universal Cafe and then got massages! On Sunday we had reservations to go out to Gary Danko but ended up canceling them in favor of going to our favorite sushi spot.
Surprisingly, I am not going to go into some long narrative about what it means to be thirty for a couple of reasons. One, I just don't feel 30. Two, it's not that big of a deal to me. Three, when I turn 31 and celebrate my golden year I will reflect and look back on thirty years.
Many people celebrate their dirty thirty or even flirty thirty and honestly, I feel neither of those. The best way to describe my celebration this year is STURDY THIRTY! Plus, Camilla takes the descriptors dirty and flirty as we celebrate her third birthday the day after mine on September 1st.
So what does STURDY THIRTY look like? One of the most interesting things to have happen since becoming a mother is that I find myself accepting everyone for who they are. It sounds very kumbaya, but when I look at individuals I see them now as someone's son or daughter and I now see that to someone they are the world and I should try and recognize that value in them. It has been enjoyable to see others in this way and makes me care for everyone so much more. Plus, with Little Miss Lillian in our lives I feel like I have everything I need- she has been the best present of all!
I appreciate friends texting me asking what we are doing to celebrate (especially Meagan) and I am sorry to say that the real celebration will be next year. Jesse and I were saying that it would be fun to host a big party in wine country with a pool, a band and a huge dance party next year to celebrate Lillian, our birthdays, summer, and all that we have to be thankful for. Stay tuned!
My birthday always coincides with the end of summer and the start of a new school year. This is the first time in my professional career that I am not returning to a school for the start of the year. I think it is safe to say that I have finally graduated from schools! While I am very excited about the upcoming changes in my professional career, I will miss those first few weeks back at school with picture id cards, opening assemblies, and lots of smiles and hugs. I am thinking of all of my teacher friends this time of year.
Finally, I have mentioned it before on here but each year I pick a word as a goal for the year. In the past I have done articulate, professional, sexy, entrepreneur, and this year I am choosing motherhood for obvious reasons! I am going to focus on being the best mom I can be! Actually, this year I want to choose two-- the second one is health! I am going to focus on my health and the health of my family-- starting tomorrow because today Baskin Robbins is selling scoops for $1.31 in honor of our birthday!!
Have a great week! Eat a cupcake for me!
PS- A very happy birthday to two of my close friends, Richard Gere and Van Morrison. It has always been so fun to share this birthday with them. I'll be listening to Tupelo Honey and watching one of my all-time favorite movies Pretty Woman.
