PERFECT PERFORMANCE: ADELE.

Last night was a game changer!! I am serious!  Claire and I had the opportunity to see Adele at Oracle Arena! We'd been waiting for months for this night and it couldn't have been more...you guessed it...PERFECT! :)

In our family we actually do Kris Kringle for Christmas gifts (since there are so many of us but then we end up getting gifts for one another so it sort of becomes pointless). Caitlin sets it up on Elfster and we all get an email about who we have for Kris Kringle. I usually end up getting my two brother-in-laws but last year I got Claire for KK. And since it was just around the time that Adele announced her tour, I surprised Claire with tickets. Well, actually just a card that said "Check one more DIVA off your list!" since she has seen Celine Dion three times (maybe four), Cher, Beyonce. The real surprise was how long we would have to wait! I wasn't able to get tickets when they went on sale and kept watching prices on various ticket sites and ended up purchasing tickets from Vivid Seats (this is not a sponsored post and I'm probably wasting too much time sharing the logistics but there needs to be a little build up, people!!!!).

Fast forward to the show-- PURE HEAVEN! On the scale of 1 to Adele Obsessed, I'm probably a 5.I love all of her songs and remember watching her video for Chasing Pavement years ago on MTV. yes, it was that long ago.

Here is my spiel from the concert: Adele is incredibly talented. INCREDIBLY talented. Sitting there listening to her I felt like I was with greatness. It sounds so dramatic but it's true. With the internet, social media, and apps I think our society has completely lost it's ability to discern talent. People think that because you have a blog, a reality show, lots of followers, or a big YouTube channel that you are talented. It's kind of insane. Talent is rare! SO rare.

Listening to Adele sing and talk with the crowd it is undeniable that she was destined to be discovered. Her songs are beautifully written, her presence is captivating and honesty I am tearing up a little bit now-- she is authentic. It was refreshing. She had one outfit the entire show, didn't dance, and had no back up dancers or anything that wasn't necessary. It was just what my soul needed.

If you can't tell I've been spending a lot of time thinking and writing about what really matters in life. And I keep coming back to sentiments like, "less is more", "love all, trust a few, do harm to none", and "family is all that matters". I've always known these things to be true but with my recent transition into motherhood I've been thinking a lot more about these things and how important it is to raise Lillian with strong values and a daily lifestyle that reflects those values.

So back to Adele. She is down to earth, but I also loved how she spoke of her success. It wasn't boastful or in your face, just facts. It was such a breath of fresh air. Claire and I had a blast singing and dancing. There are memories that stick with you and also change you; Adele's show was definitely that for me. We even talked about going to her show in LA. If you are there, you HAVE to go!

Two amazing things happened: out seats were in Club 200, but they were surprisingly great. A few rows in front of me I saw the most magical sight-- a man was signing all of the songs to a few people. Something about watching him half dance, half sign with such passion so that the others could enjoy the music of Adele was really beautiful. The second amazing thing was when Adele waved to me!! Yes, it happened! I have this trick up my sleeve and I'm hesitant to reveal it but here it goes (this is how I met Steph Curry a few years ago): towards the end of the show, right before the encore I told Claire to follow me. If you go down to a lower level the security staff is a lot more relaxed and they don't check tickets. You can just walk in. So we walked down to the lowest level stairway and stood there. Adele walked toward the side of the stage and I was there waving my arms like C-R-A-Z-Y!!! She waved back to me and Claire!!!

For the last two weeks I've had her album 25 on repeat. My favorite song is Sweetest Devotion- it just speaks to me. I learned at the concert that the song is written about her son. If you are a mom, you HAVE to listen to it. She perfectly put into words what we feel!

On Sunday night she performed in San Jose and some critic from the San Jose Mercury News (what newspaper is that you might ask, EXACTLY) said in his review that Adele talked too much. It was funny because at the show on Tuesday she said "who was at San Jose?! He said I talked too much. Whatever..hahaha" and totally laughed it off. She is the best and so authentic!

Honestly, I am inspired by Adele. Ha! And I love that she is younger than me! Listen to her music and let her inspire you! And stop wasting your time on people with no talent-- okay, just my own advice to myself.

xo,

SWEETEST DEVOTION

by Adele

With your loving, there ain't nothing
That I can't adore
The way I'm running, with you, honey
Is we can break every low
I find it funny that you're the only
One I never looked for
There is something in your loving
That tears down my walls

I wasn't ready then, I'm ready now
I'm heading straight for you
You will only be eternally
The one that I belong to

The sweetest devotion
Hitting me like an explosion
All of my life, I've been frozen
The sweetest devotion I've known

I'll forever be whatever you want me to be
I'll go under and all over for your clarity
When you wonder if I'm gonna lose my way home
Just remember, that come whatever, I'll be yours all alone

I wasn't ready then, I'm ready now
I'm heading straight for you
You will only be eternally
The one that I belong to

The sweetest devotion
Hitting me like an explosion
All of my life, I've been frozen
The sweetest devotion I've known

I've been looking for you, baby
In every face that I've ever known
And there is something 'bout the way you love me
That finally feels like home
All my life, you're my darkness
You're the right kind of madness
And you're my hope, you're my despair
You're my scope, everything, everywhere

The sweetest devotion
Hitting me like an explosion
All of my life, I've been frozen
The sweetest devotion I've known

Sweetest
It's the sweetest
Sweetest
It's the sweetest
Sweetest
It's the sweetest
Sweetest
It's the sweetest
Devotion
