highlights of 2017.

I shared my resolutions for 2018 the other day and I thought wait, I should share some highlights of 2017 before moving forward! You can't go somewhere unless you know where you have been.

Let me start off my saying that 2017 was a hard year. It wasn't bad, but it sure was hard. Gosh, I shared it the other day but it seemed like 2017 required so much strength, perservance, and an dedication to ignoring all of the bad things happening in the world. It was really exhausting and quite frankly, taxing. I know I am not the only one who felt this way, but wow, 2017 you left a bad taste in my mouth.

They say that the best way to move forward, build resilience and work towards positivity during adversity is to increase your gratitude. Every day Jesse and I tell each other what we are thankful for. Sharing these highlights is not to brag or show off, but rather to share what I am grateful for. In being thankful we open ourselves up to more positivity.

Moving into a new house. In February we moved from Noe Valley to the Inner Richmond. Deciding to move felt like a big decision but it was the best thing that happened to us. We got more space and my love for interior design was reignited (when I was in elementary school I was pretty sure I was going to be an interior designer). We made the space our home and have loved creating memories here, watching Lillian run up and down the hallway, eating at our dining room table, and most recently, celebrating our first Christmas here.

Spending time in Sonoma. Time spent in Sonoma is some of our happiest times. We love the warm weather, relaxed atmosphere, and opportunity to escape the city. The fires of Northern California have left an impact on the area and my heart and make me even more grateful for the beauty and resilience of Sonoma and Napa.

Personal professional growth. This is hard to articulate but in 2017 I felt like I approached my professional experiences differently. 2017 was the year I realized my professional worth and made changes to work with really great people who also saw it. This past year shifted how I approach new opportunities and allowed me to take on professional experiences that were challenging and rewarding.

Celebrating five years of marriage. When I think about the past five years, it's such a blur but the happiest blur ever. How did five years go by so quickly?? We celebrated by spending time in Sonoma and enjoying each others' company. Every day I tell myself how lucky I am to be married to Jesse and have him be my partner through life's adventures.

Lillian turning two and embracing toddlerhood. Wow! What a year for Lillian. I really hate the phrase 'terrible twos' because I think it's horrible to be so condescending to children, but I have to say that this past year brought the biggest and most exciting, and of course, challenging times. From the transition from crib to toddler bed to bunk beds, no two days were the same. Lillian is constantly growing and we couldn't be more proud of the little lady she is becoming. She is fiercely independent, loves talking, bright, funny, and incredibly adventurous! Lillian started preschool the day after she turned two and we have loved every minute of our preschool experience. We cannot get over how much she is thriving being in that community.

Professional growth for Jesse. This year was one of the most exhausting years for Jesse at BuildingConnected and I cannot begin to share how proud I am of Jesse for navigating it all. There is no one more equipped, driven, or patient. Every day I am with Jesse I am more in awe of him. This year was a marathon of weekly sprints and each week there was something new happening and he barely got a break. We are ready for the new year and all that is in store!

Launching The Bundle of Joy. I am so incredibly excited about The Bundle of Joy and loved the process of taking an idea from start to finish. We finished 2017 with great sales for our first couple of months in business and I cannot wait to spend even more time focusing on it in 2018! One of the great things from launching The Bundle was the opportunity to work with Brianna of Brighten Made on the designs (she has been invaluable to me this year), traveling to Las Vegas for the wholesale show and meeting all of the founders behind the companies' whose products we carry. I love that when you buy a Bundle you are supporting so many parent-owned businesses!

Spending weekends at The Bay Club. We were very fortunate to have been gifted a summer membership to The Bay Club and loved every minute we spent splashing around their Redwood Shores location. It was the highlight of our summer!

Hanging at Marin Country Mart. I had only been to MCM once before and since we moved closer to the Golden Gate Bridge, heading to MCM was one of our favorite weekend activities.

Improving my photography skills. When I first started this blog in 2014, Jesse was my main photographer. He learned about cameras and purchased our first DSLR. When he got too busy to take my photos, I decided to learn as much as I could. I would usually run over to my sister's or parents' house, set up the shot and then have them push the button to take the picture. I fell in love with photography more and more and actually really love being behind the camera. I turned this new love into a small business and have taken headshots and family photos all year. A highlight was receiving four Christmas cards in the mail with family photos I had taken. I also enjoyed participating in Minted's Photo Op program, which is an on-demand 30-minute photo session. I still have a lot to learn and am looking forward to learning even more this year.

Celebrating the holidays. All of the holidays this year seemed so much more special, fun and festive since we got to see Lillian really enjoy them. Christmas was extra memorable this year and reminded me how important family is.

Family vacation to Palm Springs. We just got back from a family vacation to Palm Springs and it was so glorious!! Five days, four nights of sunshine, swimming, and fun. We actually don't travel too often, so this trip was especially fun. It could not have come at a more perfect time and I can't wait to share more later so you can check out the amazing resort we stayed at.

Looking forward to an amazing 2018!
